Song-style Re-creation Jian Ware

The Song Re-creation Series restores the understated beauty of historical Jian ware. Inspired by archaeological fragments and documented Song forms, the artist researched traditional clay, glaze, and firing methods to recover the quiet character of these ancient tea bowls.

The series follows two aesthetic paths:

• Folk-style pieces retain gentle asymmetry and rustic texture, echoing the everyday bowls once used by common households.

• Court-style pieces follow the steadier, larger shapes associated with Song whisked-tea practices—still ancient in glaze, but more regulated in form.

Handcrafted and research-driven, each vessel offers a contemporary interpretation of the authentic, unembellished spirit of Song Jian ware.
