A rare wood-fired red glaze from the Skyward Dragon Kiln, Blooming Field presents a vivid, organic spread of color that recalls wild blossoms unfolding under flame. Its saturated crimson base, mottled with yellow-green mineral blooms, reveals the natural volatility and depth of high-temperature reduction unique to this kiln.
Fired in the hundred-meter Skyward Dragon Kiln—one of Jianyang’s most traditional multi-chamber structures—the cup bears the layered atmospheres that only such a long wood-firing can create. As the draft pulls heat and ash through the kiln’s ascending chambers, subtle shifts in temperature and reduction imprint the surface with complex mineral reactions. The center condenses into a dark, concentrated core, while the glaze opens outward in rings of red, ember-rose, and scattered mineral flecks, forming an image both botanical and geologic.
Handmade in Shuiji Town, Jianyang, Fujian, using local iron-rich clay and naturally mineral-bearing glaze.
