A three-piece floating-lid Gaiwan, refined by the artist through repeated adjustments to its proportions, dimensions, and functional details. The lid rests conveniently on the bowl’s rim when opened, eliminating the need for a separate resting place.
Wood-fired in a compartmented dragon kiln at approximately 1100°C, its misty blue-green glaze evokes the quiet beauty of unpolished jade, with a soft, muted surface and delicate traces of naturally deposited wood ash.
Fine natural crackle may become more visible with use over time, gradually adding depth and character to the glaze.
Each firing produces unpredictable variations in color and texture, making it challenging to match three individually hand-thrown components in both glaze character and precise fit.
Handmade in Shuiji Town, Jianyang, Fujian, using local iron-rich clay and natural mineral glaze.
