Collection: Iron Rust

Handmade in Shuiji Town, Jianyang, Fujian, using exceptionally high iron-content local clay and naturally iron-saturated mineral glaze. Fired in a Skyward Dragon Kiln (Tongtian Longyao) through prolonged wood firing, where extended flame travel, heavy ash interaction, and sustained high-temperature reduction create an extreme firing environment.

During high-temperature reduction firing, the exceptionally iron-rich clay and mineral glaze promote strong phase separation within the molten glaze. Iron-rich phases migrate, aggregate, and re-crystallize across the surface, forming rust-toned coloration ranging from vivid persimmon red to deep ember hues, accompanied by silver or metallic crystalline structures.

Within the Patina glaze family, persimmon-red iron rust represents one of the more demanding firing outcomes. It requires precise control of reduction timing and thermal balance, with significantly lower stability compared to standard patina surfaces.

The resulting surface combines dense mineral texture, metallic luster, and layered iron coloration. Each piece reflects a unique balance of heat, ash, and reduction within the kiln, formed through process rather than deliberate patterning.
